Ignatius of Loyola: Letters and Instructions

$40.95

Saint Ignatius of Loyola is well known for his longer writings, such as the "Spiritual Exercises" and the Jesuit "Constitutions." But he is also the author of more than 6800 letters, some 370 of which are contained in this volume in English translation, thus making it the largest such collection in the English language. The letters range across a spectrum of personal, political, social, educational, financial, and, especially, religious concerns. Depending on the recipient, they can be businesslike, warmly personal, quite courtly, gently reassuring, direct, or stern. They are addressed to a variety of persons: popes and future popes, cardinals and bishops, emperors and kings, reatives and penitents and friends and pilgrims and students and (especially) fellow Jesuits.
